Welcome to Berkshire Healthcare

Welcome to Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Congratulations on joining our ‘CQC outstanding rated’ Trust. Here at Berkshire Healthcare, we’re committed to providing the very best care possible to improve the lives of our patients. And we’re not just passionate about care - we’re also passionate about our staff.

As a new starter, we know how daunting the first days and weeks can be, and we recognise that you'll have a lot of information to learn and many questions to ask. We've put together this page to allow you to quickly find  the information you need.

Human Resources support in your first weeks

Human Resources plays a vital role in both organisational performance and people’s careers.

These policies may be useful in your first weeks:

  • Annual Leave policy - find out how to check out your entitlements, how to book, and see the full policy.
  • Supporting Attendance policy– always speak to your line manager in the first instance, read the policy so that you know what to if you're not well enough to come to work in your first days and weeks.
  • Dress Code, Appearance & Personal Presentation policy  - please read the policy which sets out the expected standards for clinical and non-clinical staff.

Your first six months

We know how important the first few months at a new organisation can be; it can shape our whole experience at Berkshire Healthcare. With this in mind, we will support you with regular and frequent conversations about how you are getting on, and set clear objectives to aid you in your first few months with us.

Your manager will use a 'new starter pack' to provide a structured framework to some of these conversations. Here's a copy of the New Starter Pack

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and our staff networks

We want Berkshire Healthcare to be a great place to work for everyone.

We have staff networks that you can join. Our Equality Staff Networks consist of colleagues who come together with a shared purpose to improve staff experience.  Our members have shared heritage, characteristics and lived experiences.  Our membership also includes allies (colleagues with a particular interest in supporting the aims and objectives of the Networks).

Our Equality Staff Networks include:

  • Armed Forces Community Network - supporting  colleagues affiliated to the Armed Forces Community and their family members) (Previously known as Courage Network)
  • Pride - promoting equity for LGBTQ+ colleagues
  • Purple - supporting neurodivergent workforce, colleagues with disabilities, physical and mental health issues or caring responsibilities.  Our Purple Network has two sub-groups:
    • Through the Looking Glass - our peer support group for our neurodivergent workforce
    • Working Carers Network - for staff with unpaid caring responsibilities for a friend or family member
  • Race Equality Network - supporting ethnically diverse colleagues
  • Women's Network - championing & challenging gender disparities and celebrating experiences

We're keen to promote our Equality Staff Networks so we have one registration form to make it easier for you to express an interest to join any or all of our Networks.
